Using technology developed for the AVR600 and AV888 it may be more affordable, but it doesn't scrimp on performance and features.
The AVR400 features 5 HDMI inputs and one output, all to the HDMI v1.4 standard. They support 3D pass through from a 3D ready Blu-ray to a 3D flatscreen and audio return from the screen's tuner (if it has one) to the receiver. It also supports full HD 1080p resolutions and the 24 frames per second 'native film' format. The latest HD Audio formats from Dolby and DTS can all be decoded, making it perfect for use with the latest Blu-ray players. With 90 watts per channel of amplification, there's plenty of power on tap for the most demanding of soundtracks. There are also analogue video inputs including component video and S-video, and with upconversion and upscaling of all inputs to HDMI and 1080p resolutions, whatever you watch, it will look at its best on your HD display.

The '400 has impressive media playback functions. As well as the DAB and FM tuners- which give you a wide array of quality stations to choose from- the receiver can also be connected to your home network and Internet connection, allowing it to connect to hundreds of Internet radio stations and even stream music files from your networked PC or NAS drive. Music files can also be played from compatible USB memory sticks, flash drives or portable MP3 players. You may wish to add an Arcam irDock to listen to your iPod
